Amid all of the excitement surrounding the launch of Huawei’s Mate 9 handset, you’d be forgiven for missing out on the news that alongside that flagship, there’s another variant. A ship with even more flags, if you will. That phone is the Porsche Design Mate 9 and it blows its little sibling out of the water.

The PD Mate 9 (as I’m now going to call it) does a great deal different to its namesake. First, it takes the 5.9″ 1080p display of the Mate 9 and discards it in favour of a 5.5″ 2K display with dual curved edges, just like Samsung’s luxury smartphones. Then, it boosts the RAM to 6GB and adds a whopping 256GB of internal memory – 4 times more than the standard Mate 9.

Finally, there’s a sleek black option, a customised skin and, er, a gigantic “PORSCHE DESIGN” logo just below the earpiece, which does blight the phones design somewhat. Nevertheless, there’s no doubting that the limited edition PD Mate 9 is the one to have for the money-is-no-option sort.

So, how much can you expect to pay? Well, Huawei are quoting a cost of €1,395, which works out at an incredibly expensive £1245. Fortunately, looking at pictures of it is entirely free.
