Childbirth. Losing a parent. Waiting for overdue smartphone releases. Three different, though no less agonising, experiences.

For those of you who’ve been waiting for the all ceramic version of Xiaomi’s edge-to-edge monster Mi Mix 2, the wait is finally over. Yes, despite missing its launch date by a full week (!!!), the flagship Black Ceramic version is for sale now, at a price of 4,700CYN. That works out at roughly £530, but for that money you’re getting 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage, a mammoth 3,400mAh battery, 6″ of 1080 x 2160 screen and almost no bezel at all (full specs here).

The eagle eyed amongst you might have noticed though that the standard version of the Mi Mix 2 is also made of black ceramic, so what gives? Simply, the Black Ceramic edition is ceramic on the back and sides. Your standard issue model is merely ceramic at the back, with aluminium sides. Yes, it’s a throwback to the design of the original Mi Mix, which remains one of the most desirable phones of all time.

As always, for you folks outside of China, you’ll be able to purchase the phone through a trusted reseller in short order. If, however, if you’re in the land of the rising sun, you can pick one up here.

Whilst you wait, why not check out Marques Brownlee’s review? It’s below.
